Shaker Kitchens in Derby

Shaker kitchens have remained one of the most popular kitchen styles for generations, and it is easy to see why. Their simple framed design works equally well in traditional homes, modern extensions and contemporary open-plan spaces.
At Duffield Kitchens, we design bespoke Shaker kitchens for customers throughout Derby, Derbyshire and the surrounding areas. Every kitchen is designed around the room, the way you use it and the look you want to achieve, rather than simply fitting standard units into the available space.
Whether you are looking for a classic painted Shaker kitchen, something darker and more contemporary, or a combination of colours and materials, our designers can help create a kitchen that feels individual to your home.

Bespoke Shaker Kitchen Design

One of the biggest advantages of a Shaker kitchen is its versatility.

The same basic door style can produce completely different results depending on the colours, handles, worktops, flooring and other finishes used around it.

Soft neutrals such as porcelain, taupe and cashmere can create a light and timeless kitchen, while darker colours including deep greens, blues and charcoal shades can give the same Shaker design a much stronger contemporary feel.

Two-tone kitchens are also particularly effective with Shaker cabinetry. For example, a darker island can be combined with lighter cabinets around the outside of the room to create contrast without overpowering the space.

Our kitchens can be tailored using bespoke cabinet sizing and made-to-measure doors, allowing us to create a more considered layout than is often possible using standard off-the-shelf kitchen sizes.

Painted Shaker Kitchens

Many of our Shaker kitchens use professionally painted and lacquered doors, providing a high-quality finish with a subtle depth that is difficult to achieve with mass-produced foil or vinyl-wrapped alternatives.

Our painted doors are manufactured from substantial 22mm material and are available in a wide range of colours.

If you have a particular colour in mind, we can also discuss more individual colour choices during the design process.

This gives you much greater freedom when coordinating your kitchen with flooring, worktops, furniture and the rest of your interior.

Traditional or Contemporary Shaker Kitchens

A Shaker kitchen does not have to look traditional.

For a more classic design, we may combine Shaker cabinetry with traditional handles, glazed cabinets, cornice detailing, Belfast-style sinks or warm timber features.

For something more contemporary, the same door style can be combined with slim handles, quartz worktops, modern appliances and bold colours.

We can also introduce features such as kitchen islands, breakfast seating, integrated appliances, tall pantry storage and feature cabinetry to make the kitchen work properly for everyday family life.

The result is a kitchen that retains the character of a Shaker design while still feeling completely at home in a modern property.

Made-to-Measure Shaker Kitchens

Not every room works perfectly with standard kitchen cabinet sizes.

Our ability to use bespoke cabinet dimensions and made-to-measure doors means we can make better use of awkward spaces, unusual wall lengths and areas where a standard cabinet might otherwise leave an unnecessary filler panel or wasted space.

Our British-manufactured cabinetry is supplied fully assembled, with doors and drawers fitted wherever possible before delivery.

We also offer a wide choice of cabinet interior finishes, allowing the inside of the kitchen to complement the overall design rather than being restricted to a single standard colour.

Shaker Kitchen Islands

Shaker kitchens work particularly well with islands.

An island can provide additional preparation space, storage, seating or a location for appliances such as a hob, sink or wine cooler.

It can also become the main visual feature of the room.

Using a contrasting colour on the island is a popular choice and can help break up a larger kitchen. Alternatively, keeping the cabinetry consistent throughout can create a calmer and more understated appearance.

Our designers will consider circulation space, seating positions, appliance locations and how the kitchen connects with the rest of the room before recommending the most appropriate island layout.
